Dr Hu 2: Vamp Tango
This is a composition I wrote in June 2024. I wanted to do a Tango, and looked up the theory of Tango writing, including the drum part. I wrote it in Sibelius with appropriate orchestration (solo violins, brass plus sax, keyboard, drums and bass). I transferred it to Avid Pro for the final production. The working title was “vamp Tango”, the word vamp referring to “vamping chords on the piano”, not the supernatural beings. However, when I came to do the final work, I used vampire artwork and entitled the song “Hu Tango 2” (alternative unused title “It takes Hu to Tango”).
I really like the section that breaks free from the rigid Tango beat into a freer form jazz swing with the violin solo. It provides a contrast but follows on naturally from the preceding Tango format.
