I started work on this on 6^th September 2024 and completed the Sibelius file “Song for Colin” on 23^rd September 2024. The song is based on a piece I wrote in 1976 and jammed with some friends (including Colin Robinson on guitar and Neil Ashcroft on alto sax) at my family home in Adel, Leeds. It was during the “Long hot summer” of 1976.  I transferred to Pro tools and worked on that very day (23^rd September 2024).  The song has a simply “verse chorus” structure, with the verse being either the melody, or a solo.  The verse occurs in two versions: one with the chords Dmin/Gmaj and one with the chords Dmaj/Gmin. The chorus features the brass with chords Bflat and Aflat (both major). It is very riff driven, and reflects my enthusiasm for Soft Machine 7 at the time (the Karl Kenkins era that overlapped with Mike Ratlidge). The photo of me with bass is taken from that around the jam session (I was not playing bass at the time, but my upright piano). Thanks to Colin for keeping it and passing it to me.

The 1976 version was never completed, just the ideas of the verse and chorus as ideas to jam on. However, I did write down the basic elements on manuscript paper.
